Asbestos Removal in Los Angeles County, CA

Asbestos can be found in dry-wall plaster, linoleum, tile, popcorn ceilings, heating ducts, and many other places in buildings built before 1978, the year asbestos production was banned in the U.S. In fact, because builders were allowed to use up remaining stocks of asbestos after it stopped being produced, even houses built up until 1987 can have asbestos in their acoustic ceilings. Asbestos is only hazardous when it is exposed and its long, thin fibers become dislodged and airborne. This is when asbestos abatement becomes necessary to protect the health of the people who live or work around the site of asbestos exposure.

We provide a free estimate of services for any potential asbestos hazard in Los Angeles County. We perform Asbestos Ceiling Removal, Asbestos Floor Tile and Mastic Removal, Asbestos Heating Duct Removal and more. If we discover that there is a hazard, we begin the job by putting up critical barriers to prevent toxic particles from spreading beyond the site during the asbestos removal. We then safely remove the hazardous material using the most advanced, certified professional techniques, and we dispose of it according to EPA and OSHA rules and regulations. After the asbestos is removed, we take an air sample from the area that is then tested for the level of asbestos to make sure the site is safe. All of our work is performed in accordance with, and in most cases exceeds, standards set by EPA, OSHA, NIOSH and SCAQMD.

Enkay Engineering has been performing the best asbestos abatement services in Los Angeles County since 1986. Customers in Los Angeles County can rely on Enkay Engineering to do any government, commercial or residential job, large or small. No matter what, we'll restore a safe environment to your property so you can breathe easy.

Mold Remediation in Los Angeles County, CA

Mold is natural and often harmless, we've all seen it growing on bread or fruit that's been left out too long. This produces no adverse affect on ourselves or others. We simply don't eat the bread or fruit and we throw it away. There are hundreds of types of mold in nature, most of which cause no harm to people. In fact, mold spores are a common element of all household dust, which is safe for healthy people to be around. It is only when mold spores multiply and reach abnormally high quantities that they can become dangerous, causing allergic and respiratory problems in people and sometimes producing mycotoxins, potentially deadly toxins that can cause neurological damage in people. Long-term exposure to these high levels of mold is especially dangerous.

You may not always be able to see the hazardous mold in your home or building. Mold grows where there is a source of water, such as a leaky pipe, roof or window, and this can occur inside the walls of a house or building where the problem is invisible to the occupants. One visible sign that there is moisture behind the wall and therefore a potential mold problem is a dark discoloration on the drywall (this will be near the leak.) At the point that you can see a dark discoloration on your drywall, however, it is probably ten times worse behind the wall. Enkay Engineering's professional technicians can use a moisture meter to determine the extent of the potential mold area behind the wall before commencing mold remediation.

Another indication of a potential mold problem is water damage-past or present-to your home or building. Even if you haven't noticed signs of mold or recent water damage, molds can lie dormant inside walls for extended periods of time following an incident of water damage, until a new source of moisture causes them to explode in number and become a serious hazard, if they weren't one already.

But don't worry. Enkay Engineering is the leading mold remediation contractor in Los Angeles County and the best value for mold remediation services. We've been removing hazardous mold from government, residential and commercial sites in Los Angeles County since 1986. We begin every job by providing a free estimate of our services. If we identify a mold hazard in your home or building, we can provide effective mold remediation, containing the hazard and removing the mold using the safest and most up-to-date techniques in the business. We always perform our work thoroughly and safely, containing the hazard inside critical barriers to prevent it from spreading beyond the site, and disposing of all materials according to EPA and OSHA regulations. All of our work is performed in accordance with, and in most cases exceeds, standards set by EPA, SCAQMD, OSHA and NIOSH. We'll leave your site clean and decontaminated.

You can count on Enkay Engineering to restore the safety of your residential, government or commercial environment so that everyone can breathe easier.

Lead-based Paint Removal in Los Angeles County, CA

Lead-based paint is a substance that, like asbestos, becomes a hazard when it is exposed in certain ways. When lead paint turns to dust it can become airborne, or ingested by children through normal hand-to-mouth contact. Even lead paint chips can be eaten by small children. Lead paint can chip or produce dust through natural deterioration of the paint, or when a part of the building containing the paint is being remodeled or repainted. Not all paint is lead-based; roughly 40% of homes in the U.S. contain lead-based paint. It can be found in the interiors and exteriors of many homes built between the 1940's and 1977, the year lead paint was banned in the U.S.

If you're concerned you may have a lead paint hazard, call Enkay Engineering today for a free estimate of our services. We've been providing Los Angeles County with the best lead paint testing, assessment, consultation and removal since 1986. We work in the safest manner, using critical barriers to contain the site of lead exposure and following EPA and OSHA rules and regulations when disposing the hazardous material. All of our work is performed in accordance with, and in most cases exceeds, standards set by OSHA, EPA, SCAQMD and NIOSH.

We are the best value in Los Angeles County for lead-based paint removal. Our years of experience, excellent qualifications, professional expertise and skilled, certified staff make us the best lead paint removal specialists in Los Angeles County, but we still offer the most competitive rates for our work.

FAQs in Los Angeles County, CA

Is all mold hazardous?

No. Mold spores are actually a natural element in all household dust, and in this context they are perfectly safe for healthy people. It is only when molds multiply and grow to considerable quantities that they can become hazardous. This kind of multiplication follows exposure to moisture, so when a building has had water damage there is an increased risk of hazardous amounts of mold. When molds are present in these high quantities, they may also produce what are called mycotoxins, which are toxins that can be severely harmful to people and animals. Therefore, it is important to investigate and treat water-damaged areas of buildings as soon as possible.

Is all asbestos and lead-based paint hazardous?

Asbestos in buildings is also generally safe because it is usually sealed off in some way, such as inside the dry-wall plaster, tile or other materials in which it was used. It only becomes hazardous when it is exposed and therefore can become airborne. This may happen when the dry-wall plaster is drilled into, when the tiles break, or any other situation in which the asbestos fibers inside the material become dislodged and exposed.

Likewise, lead-based paint is hazardous when lead paint dust is dislodged and can become airborne, or ingested through hand-to-mouth contact by children. It is also hazardous if the paint chips and children eat the chips. Otherwise, the presence of lead-based paint is generally safe. Lead paint dust can become airborne and lead paint chips can become dislodged when the paint is cracked, chipped or otherwise disrupted, which can occur during remodeling, repainting, or simply natural deterioration of the lead-based paint over time. Fortunately for those planning to remodel, on April 22, 2010 the EPA began requiring all renovators who work in homes built before 1978 and who plan to disturb more than six square-feet of lead paint to be specially trained and certified to do the job safely.

What are the health effects of exposure to high quantities of mold?

Exposure to high quantities of mold can cause allergic and respiratory problems. In the case of toxic molds, exposure can cause neurological problems and even death. This is why it is important to hire a professional, experienced and qualified Environmental Contractor to survey your building and test water-damaged areas or areas with a visible mold problem, so that they can get the results as soon as possible and begin treating the problem if necessary.

What are the health effects of lead-based paint exposure?

The health effects on children of exposure to lead can be very serious, including impaired motor skills, learning disabilities, slowing of the normal growth rate, anemia and hyperactivity. When lead gets into the bloodstream of a child, it can even be deadly. In adults, the consequences of lead exposure are equally severe, ranging from moderate to deadly effects. These include hypertension, damage to internal organs, damage to the nervous system, and even cancer. Women who suffer from lead exposure may also experience damage to their reproductive systems, and pregnant women may experience premature birth and low birth weight of the baby. Both children and adults can suffer from red blood cell damage and nerve damage. While this information may be frightening, you can take steps to evaluate and eliminate the lead paint health risk in your home. Call an experienced, professional Environmental Contractor like Enkay Engineering to conduct a survey of your property and test potential problem areas. We can contain and remove the hazardous portion of lead-based paint from your home or building and clean and decontaminate the site.

What are the health effects of asbestos exposure?

Fortunately, most people who are exposed to low levels of asbestos never experience serious health issues. However, long-term exposure creates a serious health risk. People with long-term exposure to asbestos can develop a rare form of cancer properly called malignant mesothelioma. Most people who develop mesothelioma have been exposed to an occupational asbestos hazard, are a family member of a person thus exposed, or are a person with other exposure to asbestos dust and fiber. There has been a huge amount of litigation surrounding occupational asbestos exposure and mesothelioma.

If you're worried that your home or commercial or government property may contain exposed asbestos, call a professional Environmental Contractor as soon as possible. For the best quality and most accurate survey and testing, rely on a company like Enkay Engineering that has decades of experience, the highest qualifications and full certification. If we do find an asbestos hazard, we will remove or seal it off safely and thoroughly, and dispose of all materials according to EPA rules and regulations.

How do I know if my home or other building contains asbestos or lead-based paint?

You can hire a professionally licensed and certified Environmental Contractor, such as Enkay Engineering, to take a survey of your home or building. The better a company's qualifications and the greater its years of business, the likelier it is that your survey will be done correctly. That's why thousands of satisfied customers have continued to recommend Enkay Engineering's expert asbestos abatement and lead-based paint removal services since our founding in 1986.
